COA and IRCC staff rendez-vous in Manila

22 Jun COA and IRCC staff rendez-vous in Manila

In May 2017, representatives from the Canadian Embassy in Manila and government officials from Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) in Ottawa met with the Canadian Orientation Abroad (COA) team in IOM Manila. As currently implemented in the Philippines, staff presented elements of the Planning for Canada’s continuum of services to the visiting officials, who were able to gain first-hand experience by attending both group orientation and individualized MAP action planning sessions.

Philippines – The Canadian Orientation Abroad (COA) program in Manila held several meetings on May 2-3 with Canadian government officials from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and the Canadian Embassy in the Philippines. Mr. Andom Gebru, Senior Program Advisor, Settlement Network and Ms. Karen Clark-Verbisky, Settlement and Integration Policy, along with two officials from the Canadian Embassy in the Philippines, Ms. Piera Fasullo, Client Service Officer and Ms. Katherine Jacob, Program Assistant, met with Mr. Marco Boasso, Director and Chief of Mission at IOM Manila and with the COA/Planning for Canada team.

These meetings were a great opportunity to present the continuum of services within the COA/Planning for Canada program – specifically those designed for Economic and Family Class immigrants.

COA/Planning for Canada provides a group orientation for immigrants with a focus on labour-integration and settlement.   Following the full day session, participants receive individualized action plans which address their city and province-specific destination and occupation before being referred to various partners in Canada who help newcomers achieve their employment and settlement goals.

Over the last fiscal year, the COA/Planning for Canada program delivered pre-arrival services to Economic and Family Class immigrants in the following countries: Colombia, Lebanon, Mexico (Haiti), Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Ukraine (Moldova/Romania/Russia).
